Ideas for a Better Internet

Social & Democratic Change

This cluster concerns innovations in the public interest –  improving democratic processes, building stronger social communities, and supporting non-profits. The Internet holds potential for empowering actors who are committed to the public interest — but it also can leave them vulnerable to attacks, fraud, and surveillance.

Our Purpose and What We Hope to Learn

We’re looking for ideas of ways to support social change and democratic processes –  whether it be via platforms, hardware, services, or protocols. How can we improve transparency, protect human rights activists, expand medical services, and support non-profits?

We’ve received ideas touching on these issues, and more.  The submissions are listed below, with links to fuller descriptions.
